Driving Website Traffic With Blog Comments – Small Business Strategy

by Mike on July 22, 2010

I often hear the question…how can I drive more traffic to my business and more specifically my website while increasing my visibility. Well, this is a very broad question and there are many ways to drive traffic to your website but here I’d like to share one that works well if you can commit yourself. The key here is committing yourself! Leave valuable and relevant comments and interact with people on various blogs that relate to your business or website.

Sounds easy enough, right? Well, it is! The hard part about commenting on blogs is sticking with it. Starting out, search for 1-3 blogs to get involved with. Over time, you can add more to the list, but for now, start with 1-3 until you get the ball rolling. I like to find blogs that relate to my core business without directly competing. For example, LogicBurst would be best to comment on blogs that deal with small business ventures and start ups. You never know who might need some web help someday. The idea is to be able to provide valuable feedback to the blog community in which you sign up for. This is not a place to spam…you will quickly be banned if you do so, so make sure you are providing legitimate advice and comments. Once you find the blogs you’d like to focus on, sign up.

I’d suggest to start by taking an hour each day and check back to see if the blogs posted new content that you can comment on. If they did, great. If they did not, check back the next day. You want to make sure you get involved in active blogs. I’d say find blogs that post at least 3-5 times per week and already have a decent following (active contributors).

Also, if it’s allowed, you will want to leave a link back to your own website when you post your comments. Some blogs allow this, some do not. A link back to your website is where you will see the direct traffic come from. Be sure to use your expertise about a particular subject in order to get the attention of the blog community. If you know what you are talking about…people will listen.

So, what are you waiting for, go find those blogs and get commenting. Stick with it and it will pay off over time.
